Once

By Enda Walsh

Once is at its core a celebration of human connection and the ability for individuals to enter our lives, however briefly, and change us forever. With this in mind, the scenic design seeks to create a metaphysical space which is representative of the ways that these characters change each other. The space moves through several phases as the characters, especially guy, does. The design start closed in, cold, and isolated. Next, props are pulled out of the wall revealing practicals which begin to warm and open the space up. Finally the walls begin to move apart further changing the feeling of openness until the stage is completely open and filled with light.
