The 1975

"Petrichor/how to draw"

Theoretical Concert Design (Scenic and Projections)

The design for this concert was developed as a reaction to The 1975's visual aesthetics and iconography. Scale, shape, and perspective were important components of the design. The projection design seeks to visually represent the song "Petrichor/How To Draw." Petrichor is the smell of rain after a long period of heat; a summer storm. This idea led the content for the song. There is an interesting duality between the natural subject matter and the electronic music, which was influenced by UK garage music. The song has few recognizable lyrics, so the music was able lead the progression and timing of the visuals.
